In fall, the River Walk slows down. Morning air feels crisp, afternoons glow gold, and quieter corners open up for those who step off the main path.

The Day of the Dead River Parade (October 24) brings catrinas, altars, and music to the water. Leading up to it, the Tradition Trail winds through downtown from October 3 to November 5, with 5-foot alebrijes and colorful altars. Artisan shows pop up on weekends, where local makers line shaded walkways with handmade jewelry, textiles, and crafts.

Early risers catch herons gliding low over the river near the Museum Reach, while La Villita’s tucked-away courtyards provide quiet benches for reflection. By December, holiday lights sparkle on bridges and patios, adding to the season’s charm.
