an Antonio’s biggest annual celebration is underway, and there is still time to experience the energy, color, and traditions that make Fiesta San Antonio one of the most unique festivals in the country. For more than a century, Fiesta has brought together culture, music, food, parades, and community spirit across the city. From historic downtown celebrations to neighborhood events, Fiesta transforms San Antonio into a vibrant showcase of local pride and heritage.

With only a few days remaining, now is the time to experience the traditions that locals look forward to all year!

What Is Fiesta San Antonio?

Fiesta began in 1891 as a single parade honoring the heroes of the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto. Today, it has grown into an 11-day citywide celebration featuring more than 100 official events that support local nonprofits, schools, churches, and community organizations.

Each year, Fiesta generates millions of dollars for San Antonio nonprofits while welcoming visitors from across Texas and beyond.

Expect colorful parades, live music, unique food creations, cultural performances, and the unmistakable crunch of cascarones confetti eggs filling the air throughout the city.

Here are some of the most popular Fiesta experiences still taking place:

Battle of Flowers Parade

Fiesta Traditions Locals Love

Fiesta is more than a series of events. It is a celebration shaped by traditions that reflect the culture, creativity, and community spirit of San Antonio. One of the most recognizable customs associated with Fiesta San Antonio is the exchange and collection of Fiesta medals. These colorful commemorative pins are worn proudly on clothing, hats, and sashes, with new designs released each year by local businesses, nonprofit organizations, and community groups. For many attendees, collecting medals has become an annual tradition that helps capture memories from each Fiesta season.

Another beloved tradition is the use of cascarones, brightly colored eggs filled with confetti that are gently cracked over the heads of friends and family as a playful symbol of celebration and good luck. Throughout Fiesta, the festive atmosphere is also reflected in the creative attire worn across the city. Decorated hats, flower crowns, vibrant clothing, and outfits covered in medals contribute to the lively and expressive style that has become part of the celebration’s identity.

Music is also a constant presence during Fiesta, with live performances taking place across the city at official events, local venues, and outdoor stages. Mariachi, Tejano, conjunto, rock, country, and Latin music help create the energetic backdrop that defines Fiesta, bringing people together through shared cultural experiences that continue to be passed down from generation to generation.
